One of 2 luxury Durban kitchens to get to the finals of the Caesarstone Kitchen of the Year competition, this Kloof kitchen design is the result of a collaboration between a designer and a fabricator.

Charlotte van der Haer of Kitchen Classics was invited by fabricator Clive Shiller of Afrigran to design his personal kitchen, with their partnership earning them a spot amongst the 8 finalists in the competition. Inspired by designs they saw at the biggest kitchen design fair in the world, Eurocucina, Charlotte and Clive worked together to create a trendy space.

“The trend we saw at Eurocucina was the combination of different textures. We’ve expressed it by combining the glossy, white, smooth surface of the Caesarstone island with the textured, dark surface applied to the cupboards at the back, balancing that with the raw timber countertop” says Charlotte.

“My vision for this kitchen was that I was looking for something that people could live in first, and it needed to be the focal point of my house,” adds Clive. “I chose Caesarstone because I believe in the product. I know, as a consumer, that Caesarstone will support their product 100% and I’ve had that experience,” he says.

Bielle Bellingham, editor of Elle Decoration; celebrity chef, Reuben Riffel; creative director of the Expresso Morning Show, Bradley van den Berg; Mor Krisher, head of product design for Caesarstone International; and former Caesarstone Kitchen of the Year winner, Beth Haynes were the judges behind the selection of the eight finalists in the Caesarstone Kitchen of the Year competition.

“This kitchen feels like it’s in quite a tight room, and what I like about it is that the entire kitchen closes up, so when you’ve finished cooking and you’ve got guests over all the doors close up. To me, number one with a kitchen is that when you want it to feel like a piece of furniture it becomes a piece of furniture, and when it needs to play the role of a kitchen, it does so,” says Bradley van den Berg.
